Intention

I started this blog to document what we (my husband and I) are going through in dealing with our son's varied medical problems.

Ian is 4 yrs 5 mths old. He was diagnosed with Epilepsy when he was 2 and with Ulcerative Colitis (UC) when he was 3. He is currently on 4 different kinds of medication: Prednisolone, Azathioprine, Mesalazine and Sodium Valproate.

Looking Back

Initially, when we learnt that our child was not as perfect (health-wise) as we had expected him to be, we felt a roller coaster of emotions - anger, disappointment, guilt - you name it, we felt it.

I wondered at times (and I still do sometimes) if Ian has Epilepsy and UC due to my thyroid disorder or did I consume some medication which I shouldn't have while I was carrying him? Anyway, we or rather I, had a very tough time coming to terms with our child's medical problems.

It was tough for me to fully accept Ian's condition. And to top it all, insensitive and careless remarks from those who supposedly didn't mean any harm, just made it all worse. Someone even asked whether we were "walking right with God"? Does that mean that God is punishing us by making Ian sick? Those words could have been well-intentioned but were they necessary?

I guess it was much easier to try to look for something or someone to blame for what Ian has...
